The John Deere Parla Innovation Center celebrates two years of innovation
John Deere is celebrating the anniversary of the innovation center it opened two years ago in Parla (Madrid), and we had the pleasure of joining them at the event organized to mark the occasion.
The day’s program included several panel discussions featuring leading companies in the agricultural sector. Topics of great interest were addressed, such as crop profitability, price increases, and production costs.
More than 80 senior executives from the sector, along with notable figures such as Luis Planas, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, and Isabel Bombal, Director General of Rural Development, Innovation, and Agri-food Training at the Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA), among others, joined us on a tour of the facilities and experimental farms that John Deere operates at this cutting-edge research center.
Luis Planas emphasized the importance of the innovation and technology transfer projects being carried out at the John Deere Parla Innovation Center to preserve and enhance Spain’s position in global agri-food production.
We had the opportunity to present to the attendees the revolutionary project we are involved in alongside Metos Iberia and Azud. During the event, we shared the main principles of this initiative and gave a preview of the preliminary results.
Challenge:
Optimize the use of irrigation water in high-value crops to ensure the sustainability of the sector, increase crop productivity, and reduce energy consumption, while minimizing environmental impact.
Solution:
Use IoT devices and precise sensors for real-time monitoring of soil moisture and environmental conditions, allowing irrigation to be adjusted to the actual needs of the crop at each stage of its growth cycle.
Result:
Greater efficiency in irrigation management, with water consumption reduced by up to 50% and a significant improvement in the profitability of the operation, while also reducing its environmental footprint.
Thank you for the fantastic organization and for once again including the SPHERAG team.
